What it does

Solid Subtract and Gap commands subtract one solid from another to create holes and slots, with or without a gap. The commands work with 3D solids, regions, surfaces, blocks, arrays, and other supported objects. Original solid parts and subtracted solid holes can be kept, and results are not joined into one solid. Material and face coloring remain unchanged during subtraction.

Key capabilities

from the Autodesk App Store listing

Multiple object processing

Processes multiple solids, regions, surfaces, blocks, and arrays in one operation.

Mesh conversion

Can call MeshToSolid automatically to convert meshes before subtraction.

Separate results

Keeps processed results separate instead of joining them into one solid.

Block subtraction

Subtracts hole solids from parts inside blocks, nested blocks, and arrays, or enables subtraction from blocks.

Source object preservation

Can prevent deletion of the original solid parts and subtracted solid holes.

Gap creation

Creates a gap around the subtracted part through the separate Gap command.

Color preservation

Preserves material and face coloring without transferring hole-solid colors to the resulting faces.

Use cases

  • Creates an array of holes in parts inside blocks or arrays with one command call.
  • Models detachable connections by creating a gap around a subtracted part.
